ERA..oops IERA of Self Esteem

How do you pronounce Earth? Is it E-a-r-t-h or is it I-e-a-r-t-h....(which leads to the word being pronounced as eearthh , just like eaarghh!!).. At one point or the other you will meet a person who is like this self appointed authority on English...both written and spoken..mind you I have nothing against such people...Infact I welcome their knowledge, but at the same time I also feel that trying to teach a bunch of vocabularically challenged college kids, whose vocab consists of Fuck, fuck, teri m@@ ka..#*** , dude, cool, killer , wat the f***, arey yaar, mag etc etc etc.. and all such jazz is a mistake. Ok maybe that's putting it too harshly, it's not a mistake, but its foolishly optimistic to think that the kids are goin to remember and retain the words and their correct pronounciation (i.e correct acc to the self appointed authority). Wherever you go...u r bound to be influenced by the mannerisms, the lingo and the slango of that place. So far I've had the pleasure of meeting 4 such people in my life..and it was an ............................................ yes , I've got the word - it was an entertaining and educative experience!! :-)

So what should these people do? Just give up the hope of correcting other people's grammatical errrors and pronounciations, thereby letting go of the only one pleasure in their otherwise dreary lives?? Or should they continue, oblivious of the fact that their efforts have as much a chance of success as that of a bat trying to see in daylight?

As of now, I have no answer to this deep question. For the moment I'm happy to get my earrths and earsss corrected.
