It's funny how often in life we end up taking people for granted...we may be their best soul mates once upon a time....and then all of a sudden, you find them irritating, jarring on the nerves or you just plain don't want to talk to them Reason: You may have found somebody new..so you find the old ones boring..They can be anything from new relatives..To neighbours..To teachers...to friends!
And then gradually they slip away from us... luckily most of us wake up in time to bring them back or prevent them from going away....but there are a remaining mentally challenged few..who fail to grasp the seriousness of the situation and let them slip away...only to realise years later what utter fools they were....
No prizes for guessing..I'm the king or rather queen of all those mental, dyslexic bunch of fools. And even now..I know I'm going wrong..But I still am not doing anything to improve it..... No self pity..no guilt except maybe occasional pangs, which are quickly stamped down by a hollow resolution to do better tomorrow...which is not even a word...just like you have IF - A two letter word for futility.
Luckily my friend got a second chance - A pen friend in Germany to whom she had not written for 10 years, with whom she lost touch after her junior college days ...found her German friend and that too in India!!! Her friend took the effort of searching for her through orkut and facebook and many such social networking sites..before she finally hit gold on facebook...even after 10 years of no contact ..she met my friend along with her fiancee from Germany...and my friend took them both out for a tour of mumbai...discs..pubs..Street shopping..jodhaa akbar...dinners and stuff. The German friend left yesterday..And they both had tears in their eyes as they parted....my friend has been to Germany over 2-3 times in the past 2 years..Yet she never took the effort of searching and calling her pen friend and asking her about Germany..Not once not even when she went there repeatedly..but this German girl..who probably will never come to India again..She met her and showed her that she still remembered and she still cherished those memories and letters written in a young, naive girl's hand ..Who believed in eternal, long lasting friendship before she grew up and became cynical!
My friend got a second chance..try it out..probably there's one waiting for you just around the corner... but you know what they say about second chances, you only ever get ONE.
